Grabbing in Kazakh style: About 50 persons detained at rally in support of political prisoners

The Almaty police have arrested dozens of protesters on Thursday.

Over 100 people took part in the rally in the centre of the Kazakh capital. Some of them were holding placards Freedom To Political Prisoners and Stop Torture.

At least 50 people were detained, Reuters reports.

According to the Almaty police, some of them were taken to the police station for ‘clarifying the circumstances’.

The rally was organized by the Democratic Choice of Kazakhstan movement which is banned in the country. It was founded by former Kazakh banker Mukhtar Ablyazov, a strong critic of the incumbent president Nursultan Nazarbayev.
