'Tell the Truth' now headed by Karatkevich and Dzmitryieu


A Republican Research and Educational Association “Tell the Truth” has been created in Belarus. The decision was passed by delegates of 65 organizations of the founding assembly, which was held on November 7 in Minsk.

The organization will operate the institution of dual leadership. One of the founders, Syarhei Vazniak said that the post of Chairman of the organization is a representative one and is associated with the socio-political issues. Chairman of the Republican Council of the Association will be engaged in organizational and legal issues, BelaPAN reports.

According to voting results, Tatsiana Karatkevich, candidate for the presidency in 2015, was elected unoppossed as Chairperson of the association.

Syarhei Vozniak and Andrey Dzmitryieu were also nominated for the post of Chairperson of the national council. Vozniak eventually gave up on the position, as he is also a member of the Belarusian Left Party Fair World. Thus, Dzmitryieu was elected Chairman of the national council.

The purpose of association is to help build democracy in Belarus, create a legal social state, develop civil society, national economy, strengthen the patriotic traditions of the Belarusian people.

The union will promote Belarus’ achievements in social and economic spheres, do analysis of public social and economic problems and seek solutions.

Tatsiana Karatkevich noted that the organization plans to further support program for changes offered by “Tell the Truth.” To this end, members of the association plan to “actively participate in the parliamentary campaign, working with people and are eager to bring change.”

In particular, for the parliamentary elections it is planned to create a single list of candidates. Also, Karatkevich noted that on the issue “Tell the Truth” is ready to cooperate with the representatives of all the democratic parties and organizations.

Dzmitryieu sees said one of the main objectives of the organization was “the strengthening of local democracy and self-government, help for people in specific cases.” “We must increase public pressure about the fact that Belarus needs changes, reforms,” he said.

It is not known, if the Ministry of Justice will register the “Tell the Truth.” Three previous attempts to register – in 2010, 2011 and 2013 – were unsuccessful.

From 2010 to April 2015 the “Tell the Truth” campaign was headed by ex-presidential candidate Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu. On May 28, at the national meeting of “Tell the Truth” activists Andrey Dzmitryieu was elected Chairman of the campaign, and Tatsiana Karatkevich was elected candidate for the presidency in 2015.
