FSB handed keys to Telegram

The FSB has received “encryption keys”. This was reported by Russian politician Aleksey Navalny on Twitter.

“I am sending you the keys from the cross-platform messenger Telegram with my best wishes,” says letter that was allegedly signed by Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram.

The lawyer of the company, Pavel Chikov, said that this letter was not written by them, but they really like the idea.

Previously the FSB ordered the leadership of “Telegram” to give away the keys to decrypt messages, but was refused. The management of “Telegram” filed a lawsuit in order to invalidate the order. The FSB insisted that the correspondence of citizens in the messenger is not a secret protected by law. The court dismissed the Telegram’s lawsuit. Later, Roskomnadzor filed a suit due to the Telegram’s failure to provide encryption keys at the FSB request. Representatives of Telegram say that the nature of the messenger’s code does not allow them to do this. If Durov does not give out encryption keys, the messenger may be blocked on the territory of Russia.
