Former deputy head of Minsk Andrei Damaratski detained

Before that Damaratski worked as the head of the consumer market department of the Minsk City Executive Committee.

According to tut.by, the official was detained by the Investigation Committee on May 7 for exceeding his official powers.

The department has not yet provided any comments. The head of the information and public relations department Siarhey Kabakovich suggested that belsat.eu contacts the IC on May 10.

Until September 2017, Andrei Damaratski served as deputy chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee. He oversaw trade. The official was remembered at this post by his liberal decisions: he paid attention to the development of Belarusian cuisine, criticized the excessive control over public catering.

Because of the optimization of the state apparatus, his post was reduced and Damaratsky became the head of the consumer market department of the Minsk City Executive Committee.

The previous head of this department, Siarhey Barysevich, was detained by the KGB last April on suspicion of corruption. He is still to face trial.
