FM Makey arrives in Moscow to ‘increase efficiency of Belarus participation in integration structures'

Uladzimir Makey, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, is on a working visit to the Russian Federation on February 21-22.

The main topic of the visit is to increase the efficiency of Belarus’ participation in integration structures, the headquarters of which are located in Moscow, the official website of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry reports.

Uladzimir Makey will hold a working meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. The sides are expected discuss current issues on the bilateral agenda, cooperation on the international arena and within international organizations, as well as preparation for the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation.

As reported earlier, Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenka also left for Russia – during this week he will be staying in the resort town of Sochi. The presidential press service failed to specify whether it is an official visit or a holiday trip.

Many Belarusians are outraged by Lukashenka’s leaving for Sochi as the country is presently in the throes:

On February 17-19, people were protesting the so-called ‘parasite’ law in six Belarusian cities. The most sizable actions took place in Minsk and Homiel.
