First military parade with aviation in Hrodna

Six aircraft flew over the city parade for the first time.

On Saturday, Belarus solemnly celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Armed Forces. This year in Hrodna, aviation was present at the festive march with the participation of the Hrodna garrison and mechanized column. Six planes flew in the parade line: pairs of Su-24, Yak-130 and L-39.

What are these planes?

The Su-24 is a front-line bomber that can strike in difficult weather conditions, day and night. As of 2010, Belarus had 35 such planes. Previously, the Su-24 was produced at the Novosibirsk aviation plant. In 1993, their production was discontinued. The most intensive combat use of Russian aircraft of this model was during both Chechen wars.

The Yak-130 is a combat training aircraft, which is otherwise called the “Gauntlet”. The Yak-130 production started in Russia together with the Italian company Aermacchi, because at that time the Russian Ministry of Defense did not have a lot of financial resources. Due to misunderstandings with the Italian partner, the joint work stopped, but each company received documentation for the basic version of the future aircraft. The first flight of the Yak-130 took place more than 20 years ago. The aircraft has a system for simulating combat operational regimes, which allows them to practice the fight without firing real ammunition. During the war, this aircraft is able to perform the tasks of a light attack aircraft – to destroy individual ground targets and low-speed air targets.

The last in the list is a training aircraft from the former Czechoslovakia, L-39 Albatross. This aircraft also allows pilots to hone their skills of air attacks. For the first time the L-39 took off in 1968, and four years later it was chosen as the main training aircraft of the Warsaw Pact countries.

In addition to aviation, those attending the event saw the forces of the Western operational command, the border guards, the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and militiamen pass, as well as 20 units of military equipment.

Some of them can be seen in a Hrodna Park during the day.
