First Head of independent Lithuania: Russia an illegal state that overthrew its king, killing him with his children

The Russian Prosecutor General’s office began to the check if the recognition of the independence of the Baltic states by the State Council of the USSR in 1991 was legal, Interfax reported with reference to the source “familiar with the situation.”

The first Head of the independent Lithuania proposed not to respond to Moscow’s trolling.

According to him, the Russian authorities provoke debate on Lithuania.

“They are trying to provoke us to get into dispute. Our politicians, members of the Seimas, could turn to the Lithuanian Prosecutor’s Office with a request to check the legal status of Russia. Since Russia is likely illegal – it overthrew its king, killing him with the children, what kind of state is it?” said Landsbergis.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister, Linas Linkevicius, said the actions of the Russian Prosecutor’s Office in Lithuania are regarded a provocation.

“Our independence was won with blood of the people of Lithuania. And no one can encroach on it. Our fate is decided only by us,” commented on the initiative of the Russian Prosecutor’s Office Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite.

The State Council of the USSR recognized the independence of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia on 6 September 1991 at its first meeting.
