False joy in Moscow: People enforced to celebrate annexation of Crimea

Heads of Moscow schools have been ordered to bring their staff to the rally, Novaya Gazeta reports.

The directors have received letters saying they should prepare and send the lists of ‘delegates’. The letters also stated what should brought to the event.

“People should carry placards ‘I am proud of my country!’ and balloons at the rally.”

Earlier, Russian media reported that employees of other governmental agencies and state-funded organisations had been compelled to participate in similar actions on the occasion of the anniversary of the annexation of Crimea in other regions. According to the information provided by agency Flashnord, they even mentioned necessary numbers of participants (a cultural institution was to send 20 persons; an educational one – 50).

If the administration is not able to force people t turn up, it can always pay them for coming. Website massovki.ru is seeking people to take part in a mass event –  they pay 400 rubles (about $ 7) for three-hour presence at the rally.

The celebration is to start in the centre of Moscow at 14:00. Vladimir Putin is expected to deliver a speech.
