Estonia to invite 2,000 IT staff

In the next five years, the Nordic country plans bring in 2,000 experts in the field of information technologies from countries outside the European Union.

“Estonia’s problem is that we need more information processors, programmers. We figured out how to bring here 2,000 specialists,” minister of enterprise and communications Urve Palo said at a press conference on Monday.

Details of the government plan are not yet known.

According to the Estonian official, today Estonia lacks seven thousand IT professionals, and by 2020 there will be a shortage of 8,600 people.

Palo notes that the implementation of the project developed by the Ministry for the next five years will require 10 million euros.

“This money will return quickly,” says Palo.

According to Interfax, the ministry also plans to establish a working group overlooking the professionals coming to Estonia, finding jobs and housing there.
