Karatkevich's campaign chief: We were not invited to action against Russian base in Belarus

Belsat TV invited leaders of political and civil campaigns to our studio: Anatol Lyabedzka, chairman of the United Civic Party; Andrey Dzmitryeu, presidential candidate Tatsiana Karatkevich‘s campaign manager; Syarhei Kalyakin, leader of the belarusian Leftist party “Fair World”; Vital Rymasheuski, co-chairman of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party; Ihar Lyalkou, deputy chairman of the Belarusian People’s Front, participated in the debates.

“In fact, the authorities have left us with only one opportunity to express on October, 11 our protest against the continuous lies that has taken over [state-run] television and mass media; unfortunately, it is present even among opposition activists. There are two options – to support this farce called “elections” or to ignore it. So I urge all indifferent people of Belarus to come to the polling stations only as independent observers,” Vital Rymasheuski said.

He was supported by Syarhei Kalyakin who is going to be an observer.

“The impression is that people will go to the polls, but their number will not be great. In the cities there will be turnout of nearly 50%. They will go to the polls not because their votes are decisive; many do this due to the out of habit, or they just do not want somebory to not vote for them,” Kalyakin said.

The conceivable deployment of a Russian air base in the territory of Belarus was also discussed at the debates. Host Dzmitry Hurnevich asked Andrey Dzmitryeu whether presidential candidate Tatsiana Karatkevich would take part in the protest picket on October, 4.

“No one have asked or invited us. Tatsiana Karatkevich has a busy schedule. But we will join, I will come without fail,” he answered
