Donetsk region: Separatists shell Ukraine’s Avdiyivka again


The Ukrainian-controlled town of Avdiyivka has been shelled by Russia-backed militants of the unrecognised Donetsk republic (DPR).

The attack on a residential quarter in the southern outskirts took place at about 07:00 local time on Wednesday, May 17, the press center of the Ukrainian Anti-Terrorist Operation HQ reports.

Three private houses in Sportyvna Street were damaged. There were no casualties among local residents, Interfax Ukraine reports.. According to preliminary information, illegal armed formations used 82mm mortars

On May 16, the militants of the so-called DPR and LPR pounded Ukrainian army’s positions 43 times, 120mm mortars and a tank being engaged, Kyiv states. On May 13, four civilians were killed during separatists’ shelling Avdiyivka.

Since the beginning of the year, over 500 houses and flats were damaged in the town.
