Do Belarusians believe in Russia's 'green men' attack? (ENG video)

Russian soldiers from Bryansk wearing the uniform without insignias appeared in the Belarusian city of Homel, charter97.org reported on Thursday.

“Yesterday I saw soldiers while I was walking around the station. I drew attention to the fact that they were wearing the uniform unlike our soldiers usually did. They were wearing green winter caps without insignia or chevrons. I walked up to them to ask who they were and whether it was Belarusian uniform. I got the answer: “We are Russians”. They said they were from Bryansk. Then I asked about possible military exercises to take place but they replied: “No, there will be a war, so we have rotation and trainings”, activist Andrei Tsianiuta told Charter 97.

Belsat TV has asked residents of the Belarusian city of Hrodna whether they are anticipating Russia’s attack on Belarus.

‘If Russians come we’ll never give them [the city of] Homel away. We won’t give any land away at all!’

‘But we and Russians have nothing to quarrel over.’

‘We are one and the same nation. I come from Russia, from a distant city in the north, but I have lived in Belarus for half my life and never had any trouble. We are one and the same nation. In general, human beings matter more than all nations and religions, don’t they? In my opinion it is the frustration that cause problems. When a person feels distress a problem arises.’

‘I am against any borders. I prefer huge land to many small countries.’

‘I never thought about that, but we have an agreement with Russia and our relations are good. Well, a circle of swindlers are trying to ban our products there and force up prices ahead of the New Year but our leaders Putin and Lukashenka seem to get along well, and I am not afraid [of Russia’s attack].’

‘Taking into account the latest news I question that [the attack] may happen. I am of half Russian descent, so are a lot of my friends. So, why should I conflict with myself?’

‘I think there won’t be such war. I don’t see any reason for it. We don’t have such contradictions as Ukraine does. Our situation is right and proper.’
