Customs officers seize 40K euro on border


At the Belarusian border, a Russian man was deprived of 40 thousand euros.

The man was crossing the Belarus-Poland border and to the standard question of customs officers about the amount of currency he had on him he replied that he had 8,000 euros. After the verification procedures, customs officers found another 38 thousand.

A criminal case was opened against the man under part 2 of Article 228. The sanction of the article provides for a fine or restriction of freedom for a period of 2 to 5 years or imprisonment for the same period. The money was seized prior to the court decision.

According to the Belarusian legislation, it is possible to import up to $ 10,000 into the country without any clearance. Large amounts are subject to mandatory declaration.
