Coup attempt in Turkey leaves 250 people killed and over 2,000 injured (video)


A lot of people died and many more were wounded as a result of the attempted coup and the elimination of rebellion in Turkey, Agence France-Presse reported referring to the Turkish news agency Anadolu.

According to some data, 250 people were killed and 2,000 people were injured, said Acting Chief of Staff, Gen. Umit Dundar.

Basically the unrest occurred in the Turkish capital Ankara and Istanbul, the largest city in the country. Policemen guarding the hotel in the resort of Marmaris, where the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was staying, were killed.

On the night of July 16, a military group made an attempt of armed coup in Turkey. The rebels seized several helicopters and tanks, blocked the bridge over the Bosphorus in Istanbul and started shelling government buildings in Ankara, as well as disrupting the operations of the TRT and CNN Turk channels. A few hours after the announcement of the overthrow, the forces loyal to Erdogan forced the rebels to surrender.

More than 2.5 thousand people suspected of involvement in the uprising were detained.
