Chechen accused of planning Putin’s murder becomes commander of pro-Ukrainian battalion

Adam Osmayev, once accused of organising a terrorist attack on Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, has taken command of the Chechen battalion named after Dzhokhar Dudayev that is fighting against pro-Russian separatists in Donbas.

His predecessor Isa Munayev, a former commandant of the city of Grozny, was killed on Sunday near Debaltseve. Mr Munayev went through the First and the Second Chechen wars. He became one of the youngest brigadier generals; he started to fight against Russia when he was 26.  (Belsat TV interview with Isa Munayev, October 2014).
