Byaroza: Young man beaten for 'not respecting Putin'

Mikalai and Illya Shymanski

Mikalai Shymanski, a resident of the Belarusian town of Byaroza, was attacked by unknown persons. The offenders accused him of not showing respect to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

“Overnight into Sunday I was going home after a party. I met some persons, they mixed me up with someone else. They said: „Are you a baptist? What don’t you like in our country? Are you for Obama? Don’t you like Putin” Mikalai recalls.

When the young man said he had no respect for Putin, they started beating him and shouting: “Go away to your America!”

Shymanski immediately reported the incident to the police. Two of the four attackers have already been already summoned.

“Forty minutes before the attack, they had a fight with my brother Illya Shymanski who was wearing a T-shirt with Pahonya,” Mikalai says.
