Businesses from Eastern Belarus moving to Russia

Many work at their own risk without having product certificates, others are trying to adapt to the conditions of the Decree 222. Those who live near the border find it easier. Homiel SPs are slowly moving to the Russian cities – Novozybkov, Klintsy, Bryansk and Orel. Abroad, the working conditions are much simpler than at home.

“I just adore these conditions! After all, compared with the Belarusian conditions for existence and survival of our business – it is a paradise here. But here we have to work,” shares his experience from Dobrush trader Vadzim Panamarou.

Even the rent per square meter of retail space in the Russian Klintsy costs less than $9, while in Homiel the price can reach a few tens of dollars. According to entrepreneurs, Belarusian SPs have been moved to Russia for a long time. The introduction of mandatory certificates only increased the trend, say businessmen.

Homiel entrepreneur Mikhail Latyshau does not know if he will follow his colleagues working in Russia. Now he is suspending business at home and gives the state his sales pavilion, where, as he says, he had invested about $20,000. Why such generosity?

“I do it not to lose money in service costs. I have to pay BYR 7 million 600 thousand monthly for 24 meters. We just want to get rid of it as in the days of collectivization – in order to not pay for nothing, “- explains the businessman Mikhail Latyshkau.

According to the businessman, the recent changes in the law such as mandatory product certification, the establishment of cash registers and a continuous increase in the rent have led to the fact that not having businesses has become cheaper than trying to break even.
