British envoy to deliver lecture on national identity in Minsk

Outgoing British Ambassador Bruce Bucknell will deliver a public lecture on national identity in Minsk on November 20, news agency BelaPAN reports.

The diplomat is expected to share his thoughts about Britain’s national identity and speak about aspects that he finds important to both Britons and Belarusians, said Lyatuchy Universitet, an educational group that has organized the lecture.

The event will take place at the office of Internet company Tut.by at 57 Dzyarzhynski Avenue. The lecture will start at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Bucknell’s lecture may become his last public appearance in Belarus as his tenure in the country is drawing to a close. The UK’s new ambassador, Fionna Gibb, will arrive in Belarus in January 2016.

Her Majesty’s Ambassador learns both Russian and Belarusian languages. Regarding pronunciation, Belarusian is more straightforward than Russian, Mr Bucknell said in his blog.
