Turkish cargo Boeing сrashes on populated area in Kyrgyzstan, 37 dead


A cargo Boeing 747 attempted to land at the country’s Manas Airport in poor visibility but crashed in populated area not far from Bishkek at 7:31 local time.

 

At least 37 people, most of them residents of a village struck by the Boeing, are dead, Kyrgyz officials said.

The cargo plane belonging to MyCargo/ACT Airlines was chartered by Turkish Airlines. It performed a flight Hongkong-Istanbul and was supposed to make a stopover in Bishkek on its way. Its crew consisted of five persons.

A special commission will investigate into the circumstances of the tragedy. Rescue teams are working at the crash site near Manas airport at the moment.
