Dancers, bears, footed ice cream in Brest: Carnival on City Day

Carnival in Brest

For the second year in a row, Brest has organized a carnival on its City Day. Athletes and children, public servants and workers of the city’s enterprises took part in the event.

For this purpose, main streets were cordoned off for an hour and a half. The carnival procession stretched for several kilometers; a thousand of people is reported to have showed up there.

The representatives of Brest enterprises were the first to appear; then they were replaced by musical bands, children, athletes and Bears Aero Show. Some of them threw chocolate-glazed curd bars into the crowd, others poured water on people. In general, the procession consisted of separate unrelated parts.

This year, many people dressed in Belarusian vyshyvankas (traditional embroidered shirts) participated in the carnival. Local Social Democrats welcomed the procession with a white-red-white flag.

It was the city head Alyaksandr Rahachuk who came up with the idea to hold the carnival. The chairman of the city executive committee likes to surprise the residents of Brest. For example, he gave orders to cut off electricity to save money for the carnival.
