Belsat staff discussed with Poland ways to deal with Russian propaganda

Poland is looking for an antidote to the Russian propaganda. It is with this purpose that a special conference in Warsaw brought together some of the best media experts from the countries of the former Soviet Union.

Our channel became the media partner of the event.

Among the speakers were Waclaw Radzwinowicz- a long-term correspondent of ‘Gazeta Wyborcza’ in Moscow, Belarusian media experts Paulyuk Bykouski and Alyaksandr Klaskouski, as well as other Georgian, Ukrainian, and Estonian experts. The conference, organized by the “Freedom and Democracy” foundation with the support of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is a reaction to last year’s a report entitled “Promotion of Russia and the Islamic State in the European Parliament.” It was authored by the former Polish foreign minister and now MEP Anna Fotyga.

Now Poland, which often falls into the scope of the Russian information machine, is actively lobbying in the European Union the issue of a common information policy.

Warsaw is prepared to the information war.

Warsaw already has tools to counter fake news and has years of experience working with such projects. For about 10 years now, the country has hosted such media as radio “Racyja” and “European Radio for Belarus.” The largest and most technologically advanced project, however, is the TV channel “Belsat”. Can the experience of these media outlets be used in the fight against the propaganda of the Belarusian regime at the European level?

“I am convinced that the experience of ‘Belsat’ is unique. We can be a good example for copying. But we are ready to enter the next level. All the time that we have been working in Belarus, we have been dealing with the Russian information space, we work within it,” noted Agnieszka Romaszewska-Guzy, Director of “Belsat”.

One of the main conclusions of the conference participants was the fact that the EU, despite last year’s report, never engaged in the elaboration of centralized mechanisms of resistance. At that time when Russia does not hesitate to continue to work via the so-called trolls factory and spend hundreds of millions of dollars on projects like ‘Russia Today’ and ‘Sputnik’.
