'Belorusneft' wants to raise fuel prices by 5%

“Belorusneft” oil refinery believes increase in oil prices in Belarus is long overdue.

According to its CEO Syarhei Kamornikau, the 5 percent growth in price is justified. He said so before the opening of the conference “Market of Petroleum Products and Gas of the Republic of Belarus”:

“Overall, if we consider the external economic conditions, we could say that the significant increase of prices is overdue. Gasoline in Belarus, a country that does not produce a sufficient amount of oil to occupy our refineries, cannot be cheaper than it is in the Russian Federation. This is wrong, however the population thinks of price increases. Therefore, if the barrel price was set at $ 55, and this week it even rose to $ 59, in this situation, the prices on the domestic market should grow.”

However, Mr Kamornikau called the issue of price increase “complicated.”

“We will show the today’s imbalance that exists between Russia and Belarus in the price, but the 5 percent growth is seen quite reasonable, balanced and justified in terms of the conditions in neighboring countries,” said Kamornikau.
