Belavia preparing for ban of railway communication between Russia and Ukraine

According to the kommersant.ru source in the Ukrainian government, the ban on passengers may be introduced on July 1, 2017.

It is Kyiv’s answer to the Russian Railways traveling to areas controlled by separatists in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The Ukrainian railways staff knows nothing about the alleged decision on banning the railway communication with Russia.

In recent years, passenger traffic from Russia declined by more than 60% and now amounts to nearly 2 million people a year, deputy head of Ukraine’s Ministry of Transport Aleksandr Kava told kommersant.ru.

According to the minister, termination of traffic has been discussed after the expansion of Ukrainian sanctions against Russia. Ukraine banned some some freight transportation through its territory. The ban hit “SG-Trans”, “Neftetransservis” First Freight Company, Federal Freight, “Promtransinvest” First Freight Company in Ukraine “Reyl1520 Service”, “Agrokomplex”, “Aston Food and Food Ingredients.”

“Belavia” which is in talks about increasing flights from Moscow to Kyiv via Minsk is already preparaing to the ban of passenger transport.

“Now we are in negotiations with airports for them to be able to launch additional flights,” source from Belavia told kommersant.ru.
