It happened for the 23rd time — Belarusian Written Language Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of September. But it happens not only in Belarus. On 3 September Association of Belarusians in Switzerland, together with the Belarusian Embassy, organized a Belarusian dictation in Bern.
Why was such a strict celebration format chosen? Dictation is a way to experience and “feel” the language, pass it through oneself, as if to create a text again. The poem of Ryhor Baradulin “Man Does Not Come Out Of Nowhere” chosen for the dictation supposedly paved the bridge to something very close and personal, bringing wisdom and warmth.
The Belarusian Written Language Day is a good occasion for us — Belarusians living abroad — to support our community, to feel that we are together, to make another small step in the preservation of our culture.
