Belarusians continue to exchange their foreign currency savings. The National Bank estimated that for 28 months in a row the country’s population has been selling more foreign currency than it has been buying.
Over the past years, the net sale of foreign currency in Belarus exceeded $ 2 billion annually. And this year, in May, the population exchanged $ 710 million. It is a record figure.
In turn, legal entities are still net buyers of foreign currency.
According to experts who have been watching this trend for three consecutive years, this situation will continue. The sale of own currency savings is primarily due to the reduction in the incomes of the population and the desire to maintain the former standard of living.
