Belarusians do not need biometric passports to enter Ukraine

Rumors regarding the mandatory biometric passports for entry to Ukraine have been commented on by the Foreign Ministry spokesman.

Dzmitry Mironchyk said that Belarus had received no official notification about this from the Ukrainian side.

“The exact timing of the decision to refuse entry to Ukraine to owners of ordinary passports is not known. There will be a need to worry when the agency receives such notification,” said Mironchyk.

Currently, border control between Belarus and Ukraine is regulated by the agreement on visa-free trips in effect since 2009. It says nothing about the necessity to be fingerprinted and have a biometric passport.

There are plans to introduce biometric passports (as well as ID-cards) In Belarus not earlier that by the end of next year.
