Belarusian stamp recognized one of most beautiful in the world


The stamp set from Belarus has received one of the “Grand Prizes” of the Vienna International Philatelic Exhibition (WIPA, Wiener Internationale Postwertzeichen-Ausstellung).

The jury of one of the oldest exhibitions in Europe dedicated to postal payment signs gave the block “Belarusian Orthodox Church. 1025th anniversary of the Polotsk Diocese ” the 6th place.

More than 70 countries took part in the competition.

The title of the most beautiful stamp of the world in 2017 and the cup “The Main Prize of WIPA” were awarded to the Faroe Islands for the stamp “Faroese Knives” with gold embossing.

The stamp “Belarusian Orthodox Church. 1025 anniversary of the Polotsk Diocese ” was put into circulation on October 26, 2017. The artist — Tatsiana Dolskaya, designer – Yauheniya Byadonik. The stamp was printed in the Babruisk printing house named after Nepogodin with a circulation of 20 thousand.

The draft of the stamps has been prepared in cooperation with the Belarusian Orthodox Church and the Minsk Ecclesiastical Academy named after St. Cyril of Turav, the official page of “Belposhta” informs.

The Vienna International Philatelic Exhibition is one of the oldest philatelic exhibitions in Europe. It has been held in the Austrian capital since 1881 (irregularly). Postal administrations of different countries can send only one stamp to the competition. “Belpochta” has taken part in the contest for more than ten years. During this time, stamps from Belarus entered the top 10 list several times.

Until now, the highest place – also the 6th – was received by the Belarusians in 2014 with the “Slutsk Belts”.

The jury of the contest includes well-known artists of stamps, philatelic journalists, representatives of the Austrian postal administration and the Austrian national state printing house (the Austrian stamp does not participate in the competition).
