Belarusian short movie 'The Secret of Brokeback Hollow' takes 2nd prize in Poland

On August 9, Belarusian-language film ‘The Secret of Brokeback Hollow’ took second prize in the competition of short films FIRST SHOT at the festival of famous Polish film critic Tomasz Raczek ‘Sensacyjne Lato Filmów’ .

The movie which was directed by Janusz Gawryluk, the organiser of the festival of Belarusian films ‘Bulbamovie’, was competing for the prize with 10 Polish films.

The action takes place in solitudes of the Belarusian city of Hrodna: two thugs meet there to crack their problems. Hrodna-born Valery Ruselik and Pavel Kryksunou were in the lead. This first study is part of the Belarusian project ‘Chronotop’ by Andrey Kudzinenka.

“The project will consist of studies filmed by Belarusian directors. The studies are expected to share a common trait – a hero, place, time, or property – for example, a gun. These short films are to create a cinema map of modern Belarus. 8 studies have already been filmed. In general, the project Chronotop’ aims to unite creative people who want to make auteur films, but cannot rely on assistance of any official bodies,” the film director tells about the idea.

The first study of ‘Chronotop’ will be shown in Russia at the festival “Film Shock”. In Warsaw the premiere of the film will take place in October at the Festival of Belarusian Films at the Muranow cinema.
