Belarusian man not allowed out of country due to spoiled passport

The cause of the ban was children’s drawings in the man’s travel document.

The incident took place on October 18 at the checkpoint “Novaya Rudnya”. The 36-year resident of the Homiel region was detained for violation of the state border regulation, the State Border Committee reports.

The man wanted to go to Ukraine and presented to border guards his passport with one of the pages that had some drawing on it. There was a picture of the sun, forest, house, girls with earrings.

The “violator” admitted that he had been warned of the need to replace the passport before, but he ignored the warnings.

The man’s passport was confiscated, and he returned home. There was no information about the punishment.

For having a false passport, a Belarusian citizen may receive a warning or a fine, a foreigner — a fine of 50 basic units and deportation.

However, there is no law on the prohibition of drawings in the passport. However, law enforcement officers maintain that “any damage to the cover or pages, inscriptions, pictures make the document null and void”.
