Belarusian ice hockey clubs owe $225K to players

The Sports Ministry and the Ice Hockey Federation has revealed the fact that Belarusian ice hockey clubs failed to clear arrrears in players’ wages.

The total amount of debt is Br 4.8 bln (about $225,000), nearly 60% of which is the debt owed by Zhlobin-based Metallurg club to its players. ‘Lida’, ‘Brest’, ‘Mahiliou’ and ‘Vitsebsk’ clubs are also short in payments.

In April 2015, a minimum wage was set for the Belarusian ice hockey extra league (Br 8.5 mln, or $380 per month); over 50% ice hockey players get it. Only 18 players have maximum pay ($3,800).
