Belarusian college management on trial for child and power abuse

The director of the Mahiliou Wood Processing State Special Vocational School No. 2 and two of his deputies are accused of abusing official authority.

At the end of last year, the six children ran away from the school. After they were brought back, the deputy directors tried to find out from the boys all the circumstances. They did not find anything better than to beat the children and close them in the parents’ room for the night. One of the students had his spine broken.

Another young man born in 2001 was beaten systematically for violating internal regulations.

Officials have been charged under part 3 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. They face imprisonment for the period of 3-10 years.

In September 2016, the school director hit a seven-year-old girl by his company car.

“And in the period from September 2016 to March 2017, the defendant systematically gave illegal instructions to subordinate employees and pupils of the school about the organization and execution for his personal purposes of various works, including using official vehicles,” says the spokesperson of the Mahiliou region Aksana Salenyuk.

According to one of the articles, the director of the school faces from 2 to 6 years of imprisonment.

“The measure of restraint applied to the accused remains the same — imprisonment,” the investigative committee notes.

The prosecutor filed a criminal case in court.
