Belarusian cigarettes seized from Transcarpathian smugglers

This was reported on the official site of Transcarpathian region by Governor Gennady Moskal, UNIAN reports.

“The results of the searches are compiled and will be announced later, but we can say that the main supplier of cigarettes, which were then illegally forwarded  abroad was Lviv Tobacco Factory,” said the statement.

Some of the seized cigarettes were made in Belarus. This suggests that there are “windows” for smugglers in the Chernihiv region on the border with Belarus, said Mr Moskal.

The governor added that to strengthen the fight against smuggling through the green border, there have been posted customs officers, Border Guard Service, Ministry of Interior, Security Service and fiscal services along the Transcarpathia on all four passes, leading to the area. Posts will have to prevent the importation into Transcarpathia of large wholesale shipments of cigarettes (including without excise stamps) and counterfeit spirits, and from Transcarpathia – the export of roundwood.

Smuggling is considered to be the main cause of the conflict in Mukachevo, which took place on July 11 between the “Right Sector” and the adherents of the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Michael Lanyo.
