Belarusian authorities plan 'dealcoholization' from 9 am to 10 pm

The standards are provided in the draft decree on alcohol sales soon to be reviewed in Parliament. Special alcohol sales points in shops may be opened.

The planned changes were announced by Deputy Minister of Trade Iryna Narkevich during an online conference on tvr.by.

“Alcoholism is an important topic for us, because the level of consumption is high. Under the ‘dealcoholization’ program, there was developed the concept for the years 2015-2016,”said Iryna Narkevich during the hot line. “I am glad that the consumption of alcohol and the number of smokers in Belarus has reduced. The work has produces results, but we must go further.”

The trail has already been trodden. Local authorities have the right to limit the sale of alcohol. It is most commonly used during the harvest (“drunk harvest” can be risky) or during the prom.

Then we have the next step, says Narkevich. Like the president says: “Step by Step”. We are moving forward, but not in a revolutionary but evolutionary way, because it is also a business.”

Thus, the government should be more friendly to the sale of alcoholic beverages in specialized stores. And the first step: alcohol will only be available from 9 am to 10 pm. The draft document has already been sent to Parliament.

Currently, alcohol is sold until 11 pm.
