Belarus leading in air pollution mortality

Analysis showed that 92% of the population live in areas where air pollution levels exceed the World Health Organization standard (WHO).

Experts have identified two indicators — absolute number of deaths and the number of deaths per 100 thousand people, writes The Guardian.

According to the first measurement, China, the most populated country in the world, is at the top of the list. More than 1 million 32 thousand people die there every year from diseases related to air pollution.

In the “number of deaths per 100 thousand people” category Ukraine is at the top (120 persons). 2nd comes Bulgaria (118), 3rd – Belarus (100), 4th – Russia (98).

Among the cleanest places are Fiji, Brunei, Kiribati, Micronesia, Vanuatu, and Iceland.

Earlier, the UN Environment Agency warned that emissions from cars, power plants and other industries annually kill 3 million people worldwide. Dust storms in places close to deserts also contribute to the pollution.
