Belarus transit point for Ukrainian refugees

Most Ukrainians, who flee to Belarus from the war do not stay in the country permanently. Such a conclusion can be reached by analyzing the latest data of the National Statistics Committee. According to the same report, about 15 thousand foreign nationals arrived in Belarus for permanent residence in the last six months. About 25,000 more settled in Belarus last year. And this is not only the number of citizens of the southern neighbor.

At the same time, in June, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that within half a year to Belarus came about 100 thousand Ukrainians, who fled from the war in the south-east of the country. Some of them came to us to work.

Obviously, one hundred thousand and information from Belstat differ significantly.

“Statistics of the Ministry of Statistics shows patterns of relocation of citizens for permanent residence in the Republic of Belarus. While the foreigner obtains permission for permanent residence, the Interior Ministry data shows the number of those who moved and staying temporarily or have a temporary residence,” said the head of the Department for Citizenship and Migration of Interior Ministry Alyaksai Begun.

Thus, Belarus is rather a transit point for the Ukrainian citizens who are moving on – to Russia and to the West in search of better lives.
