Belarus remembers Nazi attack on USSR: Dressed-up Stalinists order to prepare for death (pics)

A man in the uniform of the NKVD secret police ordered a passerby to prepare for death: the Belarusian city of Brest seems to be back to Stalin era. It is the sixth time that the Brest city authorities have turned the anniversary of Nazi Germany’s attack on the Soviet Union of Brest authorities into a dubious show.

The theatrical performance ‘Tomorrow Was the War’ was staged in Savetskaya street; there was a fashion show of 1940s, concert and dancing to the accompaniment of a brass band.

The icing on the cake was equipment brought by the Russian military and historical society to Brest. Two armored carriers, war-time cars and motorcycles were seen.

There were crowds of people in Soviet military form in local restaurants – they were drinking alcoholic beverages in large quantities. Portraits of Stalin, Soviet symbols, St. George’s ribbons were everywhere.

Men in NKVD uniform recited poems in honor of Stalin and the Soviet Union, exposed ‘traitors’, and chanted “Hurrah, comrades! For Stalin!”

When a man suggested that all that the issue of that war is controversial, the uniformed people ‘summoned’ him for questioning, and then … ordered to prepare for ‘execution’.

A lot of Russians attended the event; some of them were wearing in T-shirts with the portrait of Vladimir Putin.
