Belarus to receive loan from Russia

Belarus will receive the Russian loan in the equivalent of 110 million dollars in the coming days, the Ministry of Finance reports.

On March 27 in Moscow, the Finance Ministries of Belarus and Russia signed an intergovernmental agreement to provide the Government of Belarus with a loan. “The Agreement provides for the allocation of financial resources in Russian rubles in the amount equivalent to 110 million US dollars, for 10 years, including a four-year grace period,” reports the Ministry of Finance.

The Russian government previously said that a condition for the loan is the lack of overdue obligations to Russia and ACF EEC on these loans earlier.

“We have helped our partners before and will continue to help them. But our Belarusian friends also need to promptly deal with the issues that arise periodically in the trade and economic sphere,” said Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

The decision to borrow Belarus extra money was taken by the Russian leadership in late 2013. It was reported that in 2014 the total amount of aid to be about $2 billion, of which $450 million is a state loan at 4% per annum for 10 years. Last summer there was information about a possible extension for the loan of 450 million dollars given to Belarus earlier.
