Belarus president sends greetings to France’s Emmanuel Macron, hopes for ‘cooperation’


Belarusian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka has extended congratulations to the newly-elected president of France.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express interest in expanding the Belarusian-French relations in the political, trade and economic, humanitarian and other fields, as well as the development of constructive cooperation in international organizations,” the message reads.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka hopes for the deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation between Belarus and France for the sake of ‘prosperity and welfare of the peoples of the two countries’, his press service says.

On may 7, the centrist candidate, 39, defeated the far right’s Marine Le Pen, winning 66.1% of the vote to her 33.9% in the presidential runoff vote in France.
