Belarus police warns public about cyber-sex extortion

Minsk Office of the Investigative Committee has warned users of the extortion surge on the Internet related to virtual sex.

The relevant message was posted on the website of the Investigative Committee.

It says that several criminal cases were launched last month about the possible extortion on the Internet.

In all the cases, the circumstances of the crime are the same. The attacker, usually pretending to be a woman, enters into online correspondence with men and invites them to engage in virtual sex. Further communication took place via Skype.

Without obtaining permission of the victim, the attacker recorded the conversation. Then the victim was told that he was to transfer money into electronic accounts, about $ 100, or the recording of the conversation would be published online.

Despite the money being transfered by the men, videos with them was later forwarded to other users of social networks.

The Investigative Committee believs that the registration and management of the electronic accounts, where the money was put was carried out from Ukraine.

Now, the police are trying to establish the identity and whereabouts of the suspect. His actions fall under Part 1 of Art. 208 of the Criminal Code (extortion) and are punished by the maximum penalty of imprisonment of up to five years.
