Belarus offers road map to end fighting in east Ukraine - FM

Belarus offered a road map to defuse a deepening crisis in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey told TV channel ONT on Monday. The top official, however, refused to disclose any details of the initiative.

“The Belarusian side has recently made a series of proposals on further steps to solve Ukraine’s crisis,” he said.

Earlier Minsk only provided a venue for meetings of the Contact Group and never took part in the talks on settling the crisis.

It was informed earlier that the Normandy format meeting will take place in Minsk on February, 11. Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, President of France Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are due to arrive in the Belarusian capital.

But it is still unclear whether the Ukraine peace talks of the ‘Normandy quartet’ will really take place until the leaders of the four countries have landed in Minsk, political analyst Paulyuk Bykouski said.
