Belarus’ debt for Russia’s gas supplies exceeds $200 mln - Gazprom

The debt of Belarus for Russia’s gas supplies exceeds $200 mln, Gazprom Deputy CEO Alexander Medvedev said on Tuesday.

“There are arrears in payment to the Belarusian company (Gazprom Transgaz Belarus owned by Gazprom – TASS) from Belarus’ consumers. The backlog is rather serious, exceeding 200 (mln dollars),” state-run news agency quotes the official as saying.

On May 12, in Mahiliou, where the sitting of the Union State Council of Ministers was held, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said that the debt of Belarus before Gazprom in January-April exceeded 125 million dollars, which Minsk refused to recognize.

Negotiating the gas price has been in progress since January. Taking into account ‘fluctuations of the Russian ruble in relation to the dollar’, the Belarusian side wants it to be $73 instead of the current $142 for 1,000 cubic metres.

In turn, Russia’s energy giant Gazprom considers it inexpedient to cut its gas prices for Belarus.
