Belarus citizen in Donbas mass crimes case

Ukraine chief Military Prosecutor’s Office intends to prosecute a citizen of Belarus who fought in the National Guard “Tornado”.

The squadron served as patrol officers in the area of anti-terrorist operation and was established based on the volunteer battalion Shakhtsiorsk, previously disbanded for discrediting the paramilitary units.

Law enforcement agencies have arrested 8 soldiers suspected of murder, torture and kidnapping in the Luhansk region. Not all members of the criminal group have been detained. The Tornado company will be disbanded based on the decision of the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov.

But fighters of company, according to the military prosecutor’s office, allegedly mined the base, refused to obey orders and to let investigators into their base.

Deputy Attorney General – Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine – Anatoly Matias argues that among the main perpetrators is a Belarusian, not the employees of the Ukrainian militia.

“I have to admit that among these people, to our data, are 43 previously convicted persons, some of which are integrated and drafted, said the military prosecutor.

Surname of the Belarus citizen has not yet been disclosed by the investigation.

At the same time, the deputy head of the company, commander Nikolai Tsukur, denies allegations of the prosecutors: “On the territory of our base were journalists who could check all of our cellars to ensure that no prisoners were retained.” According to him, the Interior Ministry is to conduct an internal office investigation.

Military Prosecutor’s Office has found that, starting from January to mid-March 2015, the company commander created in the deployment of the battalion in the city of Luhansk region a wide criminal organization that kidnapped and tortured at least 10 people.

The conflict between the patrol squadron “Tornado” and military-civilian administration of the Luhansk region escalated after soldiers detained a train, which was carrying metallurgical raw materials from the territory of the so-called PRL towards the Dnieper Metallurgical Plant named after Dzerzhinsky, which is on the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities.
