Belarus attracts 'citizen of the world'

Occasionally, Belarusian border guards are faced with attempts to cross the border using the documents of non-existent states, the State Border Committee reports.

According to the representatives of the department, they encountered persons with passports of “citizen of the world” and “citizen of the Arctic”. At the same time, some passports were good quality, with elements similar to watermarks.

“There were many cases of attempted border crossings without passports, especially when the events in Ukraine began. People, running away from the country, grabbed what they could. In such situations, we worked closely with colleagues and contacted the Foreign Ministry, the commanders of border units to establish the citizenship of such migrants,” BelTA was told at the State Border Committee.

It also happens that foreigners try to enter the territory of Belarus using false documents or papers with signs of partial forgery.

If a foreigner arrives in Belarus and does not have documents, they can apply for refugee status, but during the application process they will be placed in the center of isolation of offenders.

Recall that entry to Belarus with the passports of unrecognized LPR and the DPR is possible “selectively” and is considered on the basis of ID owner’s life situation. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus announced this in February 2017. Earlier the State Border Committee stated that entry using these documents was prohibited.
