Azerbaijan’s president pardons blogger extradited by Belarus


Azerbaijan’s president Ilham Aliyev signed an order to pardon Alexander Lapshin, who was sentenced to three years in jail. 

“Israeli citizen Alexander Lapshin, who was sentenced to imprisonment by the Baku Court of Grave Crimes on July 20 2017, shall be released from prison,” apa.az quotes the order.

Alexander Lapshin is a well-known Russian-language blogger and citizen of Russia and Israel. in December 2016, the foreigner was detained In Minsk at the request of Azerbaijan. Lapshin was accused of violating the laws of the Azerbaijan state border. He was on the black list of this country already in 2011 due to his visits to the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.

After the extradition of Lapshin, Ilham Aliyev made a phone call to his Belarusian counterpart Alyaksandr Lukashenka and extended gratitude.
