Authorities getting ready to falsify 2016 election

The authorities have been blocking attempts of the public to nominate their representatives to the election commissions. The opposition are fighting in courts and not giving up: collection of signatures for candidate nomination is coming.

The court is on the side of the Central Election Commission. The Minsk City Court dismissed the complaint of the non-inclusion of the human rights activist Tamara Sidarenko into the group of citizens of the 101st Sukharava constituency, where the deputy chairman of the Movement For Freedom Ales Lahvinets is going to run during the upcoming election campaign.

“Tamara Sidarenka was not included, because she is very well-qualified lawyer, she is a decent person and will be guided by the law and not the wishes of the Administration. Anyway, authorities are taking a number of important decisions and want to control the electoral process,” said Ales Lahvinets, Deputy Chairman of the Movement For Freedom.

The Court where, surprisingly, the proceedings were conducted entirely in Belarusian, found a group of citizens’ complaint unfounded. A similar decision was also recently rendered by the Brest Regional Court which dismissed the complaint of the representatives of the Movement For Freedom about the non-inclusion of its regional representatives in the commissions. As a result, only two representatives of the movement of the 48 made it into the territorial and district election commissions.

The Central Election Commission should register the candidates from August 2 to August 11 inclusive. After that, potential deputies will be able to conduct election campaign. The parliamentary election as such will be held a little more than in two months – on 11 September.
