More NPPs to appear in Belarus after Astravets

According to Belarus Academy of Sciences, new nuclear power plants may be constructed in Belarus in 2030.

At a press conference in Minsk the chairman of the National Academy of Sciences Board Uladzimir Husakou said that a large number of nuclear power plants may be built on the territory of Belarus in the future.

An NGO activist from Varanyany Mikalai Ulasevich has expressed doubts about the rationale of even one nuclear power plant in Belarus.

A series of accidents have taken place at the site of the first Belarusian nuclear power plant.

After one of the incidents, the housing of the nuclear reactor had to be replaced. However, during transportation , the second reactor vessel was bumped on the rail post.

After the media voiced these cases, information on the construction became more closed.

Belarusian nuclear power plant is built with the participation of Russia near Astravets in Hrodna region. Commissioning of the first unit is scheduled for 2019, the second one is planned for 2020.
