Counterterrorist operation has been launched in Nalchik, capital of Kabardino-Balkaria.
The decision was taken by the head of the Russian FSB in Kabardino-Balkaria, interfax.ru reports.
In turn, the witnesses reported that they could hear shots at the center of the city and the Gorny district.
A source in law enforcement said that shots were fired in a house not far from the prosecutor’s office.
“It all began when the security forces tried to stop a car with unidentified men for check. They opened fire, jumped out of the car and ran into a private home nearby,” said a representative of the law enforcement agency.
According to tass.ru, security forces shot and killed three people, including the leader of the local ISIS branch. The counterterrorist operation was stopped at 21:45 local time.
Earlier in the Gorny area suburb of Nalchik security forces killed 11 militants, who have worked for ISIS.
