Opposition leader fined for paying tribute to victims of Stalinist repressions

Anatol Lyabedzka, the leader of the United Civic Party of Belarus, has been punished for his taking part in the event held in memory of victims of Stalinist repression on November, 7.

Alena Shabunya, a judge of Tsentralny district, imposed BYN 1,050 fine ($535) on the politician.

The action alo drew attention of the Ministry of Justice: Mr Lyabedzka received a letter in which explanations about an ‘unauthorized mass event’ were damended from him.

On the day of the October Revolution, about 20 protesters remembered the victims of Stalinist repression near the central KGB building in Minsk. The police drew up protocols on all the participants.
