Opposition leaders find KGB bug at meeting in Minsk cafe

Anatol Lyabedzka, the chairman of the United Civic Party was meeting with ex-presidential candidates Mikalai Statkevich and Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu in a cafe in Minsk. The politician found a bugging device.

“You [Belarusian secret services, the KGB] have sucked pots of money – tens of millions of dollars – from state budget, but you are still not able to properly mount a bugging operation! Today Mikalai Statkevich, Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu and I arranged a meeting ‘at the place we always meet’ – by the phone. We did not mention any details. I came 10 minutes earlier. I sat down, a bartender looked in, a waitress immediately appeared, took a napkin holder from the table and replaced it by another one. I noticed that they were different,” Lyabedzka said on Facebook.

There was a bugging device inside the napking holder brought by the waitress, the politician states.

“It is a bit funny way to behave for guardsmen of the person for whom more than 80% allegedly voted,” Anatol Lyabedzka sums up.

The three leaders of the civil rights movement held their meeting in the cafe ‘Salodki Falvarak’ (Sweet Farm) in Victory Square in Minsk. Interestingly, its owner is Yury Chyzh, one of Alyaksandr Lukashenka‘s bagmen.
