Amriyev’s case: Lukashenka losing control over security forces?

Last week Belarus secretly took MMA fighter Murad Amriyev to Russia despite the fact that he asked for political asylum in Belarus.

The Belarusian authorities stated that it was not deportation, just ‘delivering’. Soon the man fell into the hands of the Chechen police.

“According to our information, a blood feud was declared on him, which means that his life is in jeopardy,” said Anastasia Garina, a representative of the Committee Against Torture.

On Friday evening, Amriyev was released – in large part because of wide media coverage. However, he is still at the gunpoint of Kadyrovites,  Igor Kalyapin, Head of the Committee, believes.

According to experts, the incident may indicate that Alyaksandr Lukashenka is losing control over security forces.

Amriyev’s  story is another argument for the fact that the Sasha [Alyaksandr Lukashenka – Belsat.eu] has no control over siloviki. On the contrary, it is the security forces that are controlling Sasha. At the moment, ‘young wolves’ led by Viktar Lukashenka [Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s eldest son] are providing the president with wrong information. In general, Viktar seems to have had everything coordinated with Moscow,” Vladimir Kavalkin, a Belarusian expert in the civil service, stresses.

A similar opinion was voiced by former KGB officer Andrey Molchan who left Belarus and handed over сompromising documents on the Belarusian authorities to Swedish journalists.

The Chechen athlete’s precedence may give rise to unexpected political scenarios both for Moscow and Minsk.
